“You don't have to become someone new. You only have to remember who you've always been.”
Meet Malcolm
Founder of True North Life Coaching, creating welcoming spaces where individuals can reconnect with who they truly are and rediscover their True North.
If there's one thing I've learned, it's this:
People don't need fixing. They need a safe place to remember who they are.
For much of my life, I believed I had to become someone else in order to be accepted.
I knew I was gay from a young age, but I grew up in a conservative religious home, attended private religous schools, and learned very early that some parts of me weren't welcome. Without anyone saying the words directly, I absorbed the message that who I truly was had to be hidden.
So I did what many of us learn to do.
I adapted.
I performed.
I became who I thought everyone else needed me to be.
Over time, I built layer upon layer of protection around my authentic self. Those layers helped me survive, but they also kept me disconnected from who I really was.
For years, I lived between two worlds.
I married a wonderful woman, trying to build the life I believed I was supposed to have. I moved through conservative churches, searching for belonging while carrying a secret I was terrified to share. At times I sought connection with men, only to be overwhelmed by guilt and shame afterward, believing there was something fundamentally wrong with me.
Looking back, I don't see someone who was broken.
I see someone who was trying to survive.
Like so many people, I spent years living according to fear, expectation, and other people's definitions of who I should be.
Eventually, survival wasn't enough.
I wanted to know what it felt like to live honestly.
That journey changed everything.
Over the past decade, I've built a life I once wasn't sure was possible. I met my incredible husband, found a relationship grounded in love, authenticity, and acceptance, and began doing the deeper work of coming home to myself.
That work didn't happen overnight.
It came through therapy, self-reflection, difficult conversations, meditation, yoga, writing, and a willingness to gently peel back the layers I'd spent a lifetime building.
And if I'm honest...
I'm still doing that work today.
Because I don't believe healing is a destination where one day we announce, "I've arrived."
I believe we're always growing.
Always learning.
Always remembering who we are beneath the expectations, fear, and stories we've carried for so long.
That's why I created True North.
Not because I have all the answers.
I don't.
I created it because I know what it's like to feel disconnected from yourself. I know what it's feels like to perform instead of live, to seek belonging while hiding, and to wonder if life could ever feel fully your own.
Today, I create space for honest conversations with gay, bi, queer, and questioning men who are ready to stop performing for others, reconnect with who they truly are, and build lives that feel authentic and deeply their own.
You won't find judgment here.
You won't find someone pretending to have a perfect life.
You'll find someone who has walked his own winding path, who believes in the power of honest conversation, and who will sit beside you—not in front of you—as you rediscover your own True North.
So...
Pull up a chair.
There's always a seat at the table.
